The Dallas Mavericks are in the middle of building a star-studded roster that is headed by the reigning MVP.
The front office is on a roll, and they are going to add another star to their lineup in rookie point guard Kevin Gates Jr. The Mavericks are currently in the market for a new point guard, and Gates will be a major part of the rebuild.
Gates is a 6-foot-7 guard who has averaged 10.7 points and 6.4 assists per game for the Mavs.
Gates averaged 15.4 points and 9.2 assists per contest last season for the Los Angeles Clippers.
He also shot 48.2 percent from the field and 41.4 percent from three-point range.
Gates will provide the Makers with a veteran presence at the point guard position.
He has averaged 14.9 points and 8.7 assists per night for the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers, the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat over the past two seasons.
Gates was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team for the second straight season in 2015-16, and he also helped the Phoenix squad to a championship.
Gates has also made an impact in the playoffs, scoring 25.7 per cent of the team’s points in the 2015 NBA Finals.
Gates also was a key contributor to the Miami HEAT during the NBA Finals, as the team was victorious in six games.
Gates can score from distance and rebound from a distance, and his ability to finish at the rim will help the Moms win games.
The Mavks have shown the ability to win games in the NBA Playoffs, as they have been successful in six of their seven playoff series.
The team will have to rely on Gates to lead the charge if they want to make a deep run in the postseason.
Gates’ versatility should allow him to play in multiple positions, and the Makings are looking for a big man who can shoot from the perimeter and provide rim protection.
