Bill Gates is “bitter” that his father’s son is dead, his spokesman has said.
Mr Gates told a news conference at his home in Palo Alto, California that he had been “heartbroken” by the news and said he was trying to understand why his son’s body was found on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
“I am sad and disappointed.
My son’s son died and I’m trying to explain why,” Mr Gates said.”
But at the same time I’m hopeful that I can find some understanding, maybe some healing.”
Mr Gates said he had “seen the light” and would be sending his son a message soon.
The US tech titan’s father, Bill Gates, was diagnosed with ALS in December 2015.
“He had the most wonderful and beautiful soul,” Mr Bill Gates said in a statement released by his company, Microsoft.
“The fact that his death has brought us to this point has made me realize that he has not given up on us.”
My son and I are still together, we’re still working on the next big project together, and he is very much a part of that.
“Our hearts are heavy and our hearts are breaking.”
Mr Bill Gates told the press conference that he wanted to send his son the message that he was “still here”, and that he hoped his death would “wake people up”.
“If you are suffering and you think it’s time for a break, you should consider that it is possible to stop, it’s possible to find something else that you love and to work hard at it,” he said.
In a message on Facebook on Friday, Microsoft said: “My heart breaks for the Gates family and all of those impacted by this tragedy.”
Please know that we are in touch with our families, and are praying for a quick recovery.
“Microsoft has said it had no comment to make on the case of Mr Gates’ son, who was found dead at the shoreline on the lake.”
We are very saddened to hear of the death of our beloved father Bill Gates,” the company said.
Earlier on Friday the coroner for the western suburb of San Mateo, California, confirmed that Mr Gates had died from ALS.
The coroner, Paul Ziegler, told reporters the cause of death was “possible multiple blunt force injuries” to the head.
He added that the cause had not yet been determined.”
There is nothing to indicate this was a suicide,” Mr Ziegluk said.
The death is the latest in a string of mysterious deaths involving family members of US tech giants.
In November, a man died at a hotel in Singapore after being attacked by his family members and then died later from his injuries.
In December, a US doctor died in California after taking part in a private meeting with his family.
A US Navy doctor, a nurse and a medical missionary were among at least 14 people who died in the past six months in mysterious circumstances.ABC/wiresTopics:death,disasters-and-accidents,community-and
