As the Gates empire grew in China, China was becoming a major hub for corporate philanthropy, and Gates’s sons joined the family.
The Gates brothers were at the center of a huge PR campaign that focused on how China was the world’s second-largest source of private capital after the United States.
The effort helped to boost the Gates brand, which had been tarnished by a series of scandals.
